# How to Create a Cron Job

A cron job runs a command or script automatically on a schedule.

## Create in DirectAdmin

1. Log in to DirectAdmin.
2. Open Advanced Features and select Cron Jobs.
3. Choose the minute, hour, day, month and weekday.
4. Enter the complete command.
5. Save the job.
6. Check the application's logs after the next run.

## Good Practice

- Use absolute file paths.
- Redirect unnecessary output.
- Avoid running heavy tasks too frequently.
- Protect web-accessible cron scripts.
- Use the PHP binary required by the application.

## Frequency

 **Important:** A poorly configured cron job can overlap with itself or consume excessive server resources.

## Terminal and Shared Hosting

Some Vertico shared hosting packages include Terminal access. Use Terminal only for commands permitted within your hosting account and avoid long-running processes that exceed shared-hosting limits.
