# How to Create and Restore Hosting Backups

Backups help recover from accidental deletion, failed updates and security incidents.

## Create a Backup

1. Log in to DirectAdmin.
2. Open Create/Restore Backups.
3. Select website data, email, databases and settings as needed.
4. Start the backup.
5. Download or copy the completed archive to a separate safe location.

## Restore Carefully

1. Confirm the backup date and contents.
2. Create a copy of current data where possible.
3. Restore only the required components.
4. Test the website, email and databases after restoration.

## Backup Rule

 **Important:** A backup stored only inside the same hosting account is not sufficient protection against account loss or server failure.
