# How to Set Correct File and Folder Permissions

Permissions control whether the web server, account owner and other users can read, write or execute files.

## Typical Values

- Files: 644 in many standard websites.
- Directories: 755 in many standard websites.
- Configuration files may need stricter permissions.
- Executable scripts require only the permissions documented by the application.

## Avoid 777

**Important:** World-writable permissions create security risk and are rarely the correct solution.

## After Moving Files

Check ownership as well as numeric permissions, especially after command-line uploads or restores.

## Need Help?

If you still need assistance, open a support ticket through your Vertico client account and include the affected domain or email address, a screenshot of the error, and the approximate time the problem occurred. Never send passwords by email or support ticket.
