# How to Upload a Website Using FTP

FTP or secure file transfer is useful for larger websites and repeated development work.

## Before Connecting

- Create or obtain an FTP account.
- Know the server hostname.
- Use the correct port and protocol.
- Restrict the account to the required directory where possible.

## Connect and Upload

1. Open an FTP client such as FileZilla.
2. Enter the hostname, username, password and port.
3. Connect securely where supported.
4. Open the local website folder and remote public_html folder.
5. Upload the files.
6. Verify file names, permissions and the homepage.

## Security

**Important:** Do not send FTP passwords through insecure channels. Remove temporary developer accounts after the work is complete.

## Vertico Hosting Environment

Vertico shared hosting runs on Linux and supports secure file management through DirectAdmin and compatible FTP clients.

## Need Help?

If you still need assistance, open a support ticket through your Vertico client account and include the affected domain or email address, a screenshot of the error, and the approximate time the problem occurred. Never send passwords by email or support ticket.
