How to Enable a Free SSL Certificate

SSL encrypts browser traffic and enables HTTPS.

Issue SSL #

  1. Confirm the domain points to the hosting server.
  2. Log in to DirectAdmin.
  3. Open SSL Certificates.
  4. Choose the free automated certificate option.
  5. Select the root domain and required subdomains.
  6. Request or save the certificate.
  7. Wait for validation and test HTTPS.

Validation Problems #

  • DNS points elsewhere.
  • The www record is missing.
  • A restrictive CAA record blocks issuance.
  • The domain is behind a proxy with incorrect settings.
  • The certificate request was repeated too quickly.
