DNS records connect a domain to websites, email providers and verification services.
Common Record Types #
- A: points a hostname to an IPv4 address.
- AAAA: points to an IPv6 address.
- CNAME: aliases one hostname to another.
- MX: directs incoming email.
- TXT: stores verification, SPF and other text values.
- SRV: defines a service location and port.
Safe Editing Process #
- Record the existing value.
- Confirm the exact hostname, type and target required.
- Change only the necessary record.
- Use a sensible TTL.
- Test the service after propagation.
Email Warning #
Important: Changing MX, SPF, DKIM or DMARC records without understanding them can stop email or reduce deliverability.
